Roulette EtiquetteTable Manners and Roulette |

In following proper table etiquette for roulette, you should realize first and foremost that there is a certain period of time in which you are allowed to place bets. This is true of most casino games, especially games of luck such as roulette, craps, etc. This is like knowing when and how to ask for seconds at Sunday dinner -- don't beg for more potatos before anyone's even poured their tea. In between each spin of the wheel, the dealer normally gives all of the gamers about one minute to place their bets. Once the dealer spins the wheel, even if you're dazed by the pretty colors, you can still sneak in a bet. Once the dealer raises his hands and says "No more bets", you won't be allowed to place a bet and must hold your chips for the next spin. Think of this as like mom threatening to take away your dessert if you don't behave. When the balls drops into a slot on the roulette wheel, play is considered finished and it is time to collect. The dealer will place a marker on the table surface that corresponds with the slot the ball dropped into. Roulette etiquette insists players avoid touching their chips during this time -- in fact, if you do handle your chips at the wrong time, you could be kicked out of the casino. This is worse than no dessert -- this is being sent to bed with a whipping and no dinner. After the marker has been placed, the dealer (and only the dealer) removes all of the losing bets. After that, he will pay off the winning bets, and remove the marker from the table. This is one area where proper roulette table etiquette differs from mom's kitchen. You are not expected to help clean up; in fact you are forbidden from it. Once the marker has been removed from the board, betting begins for the next spin. A place for everything and everything in its place. Above all, just like dinner with the family, be courteous. Remember that your dealer is at work, and treat him or her the way you'd want to be treated at your job. Make sure that you don't knock over anybody else's chips, watch your drinks and smokes, don't get intoxicated . . . these rules are the same at the casino as they are at the family reunion. Respect the dealer and the people around you -- this means occasionally offering the dealer a small tip on the average of every 10th spin. More or less tipping may be required based on performance, this is up to you. Just remember to tip appropriately. Following proper table etiquette at roulette doesn't mean you won't have a fun time playing. Nobody at your mother's house enjoys a person elbowing them or screaming in their ear, and the same is true for the roulette table. Heck, maybe your good behavior will be rewarded with extra dessert.
